Xoan singing - a traditional folk music in Phu Tho



(ilovetravelingvietnam) - Xoan singing is one of the most important traditional folk musics in Phu Tho province, Vietnam. Xoan singing appeared from Hung Kings period. Long time ago, there are three kinds of Xoan singing: singing to worship Hung Kings and tutelary of village, singing to pray for health, having good harvest and singing to find out each other (between men and women).


Xoan singing is usually performed on Tet holiday to open Spring. In the morning of New Year lunar calendar, Xoan singers sing in their village’s communal house; in the evening, Xoan singer in other village meet to plan for sing at communal house and shrine.

On 24th November 2011, Xoan Singing was recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO at the 6th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Intangible Cultural Heritage Conservation.

Đờn ca tài tử singing in Southern Vietnam


Đờn ca tài tử singing, a kind of traditional music in Southern Vietnam, formed and developed from the late 19th century, derives from the Hue’s Royal court music and folklore. Đờn ca tài tử singing appeared over 100 years ago. It is typical folk art form of the South and is sung by rural young men and women after hardworking hours. Besides, friends and neighborhoods also gather to sing Đờn ca tài tử; they are willing to share the elegant pleasure together so they do not care about costume problem.

On 12th May 2013, Đờn ca tài tử of Vietnam was recognized as World Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO at the eighth meeting of Intergovernmental Committee for protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage took place at Baku City, Republic of Azerbaijan.

Currently, Đờn ca tài tử singing is developing at 21 provinces and cities of Southern Vietnam, including An Giang, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Bac Lieu, Ben Tre, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Binh Thuan, Ca Mau, Can Tho, Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Ho Chi Minh City, Kien Giang, Long An, Ninh Thuan, Soc Trang, Tay Ninh, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh and Vinh Long. In particular, Bac Lieu, Binh Duong, Tien Giang and Ho Chi Minh City have the most number of Đờn ca tài tử singers.

Dalat opens 6 new rail routes to develop tourism

The provincial people committee of Lam Dong has approved a new scheme to upgrade the local transportation system, which is expected to complete in between 2020 and 2030.

In details, Dalat City is developing 6 city monorail routes (a transportation system based on single rail), with the main purpose to support the traveling demand of tourists in Dalat.

The main station of this new monorail system is located in the centre of Dalat City which helps connecting Da Lat with several tourist attractions such as Suoi Vang, Tuyen Lam Lake, Love Valley, Tung Lam Junction, Lien Khuong Airport and Langbian highland.

Besides new monorail routes, Dalat also focus on re-building old railroad. One of the most important routes is Cham Temple – Da Lat, which is 84km in length that leads through impressive mountain passes. However, this route may only serve tourists with 7km only at the current state.
